Fort Valley Main Street/Downtown Development Authority will sponsor a Picnic in the Park on Thursday, September 27 from noon-1:30 in Fincher Park on the corner of Camellia Boulevard and West Church Street in downtown Fort Valley.

Local music legend Bruce Brookshire will be back by popular demand to perform your favorite songs and tell some great stories. Brookshire, who now pastors Grace Fellowship church in Warner Robins, mastered the guitar at a young age and exploded onto the middle Georgia music scene in the early 1970s with the band "Roundhouse." By the late 70s, the band had morphed into "Doc Holliday." The group was signed to A&M records in 1980, and shot to world-wide attention in 1981 when their self-titled debut album entered the Billboard charts in the top 30. The band quickly began to receive the attention of the European music press. Their second album, “Doc Holliday Rides Again," was a worldwide success and contains the Southern rock classic ‘Lonesome Guitar,’ a hit in the tradition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's ‘Freebird.’ These days, Brookshire fronts two popular local bands: "Road Pizza" and "The Bongo Brothers."

Concessions will be provided by Val Yaney of Lily of the Valley, who will serve a delicious home-cooked box or bag lunch at a reasonable cost.

The event is free to the public. To contact Bruce Brookshire, call 478-922-4919. To contact Lily of the Valley, call 478-447-3103
